Cozy Game Restoration Gets a Fall Release Date

If you’re unfortunate enough to count yourself among the over-50 crowd, Cozy Game Restoration might be worth a look. The cartridge-restoration sim now has a September release date.

Cozy Game Restoration? Buzzword alert. But no—this odd little game for aging kids doesn’t have you steering a squeaky anime character around while growing potatoes, petting cats, watering flowers, and obsessively decorating a tiny farmhouse.

Instead, it’s about restoring old game cartridges; the kind you might remember from the (Super) Nintendo Entertainment System, for example. If the article image sparked a warm little nostalgia hit, you may want to jot down this date: September 24, 2026. As of today, that’s the official release date for Cozy Game Restoration.

Ironically, Parasol Corp’s game, which is very clearly aimed at "classic gamers," will only be available on PC via Steam. To me, a DRM-free release on GOG and/or Itch.io feels almost mandatory here. But hey—what matters is that Cozy Game Restoration has a few virtual sparks of joy ready for its target audience.

What you do in Cozy Game Restoration

The collector sim always begins with a mysterious parcel containing a game cartridge—which one is decided at random. You unpack the box, pull out any styrofoam or paper inside, and out comes an ancient cartridge. Usually, anyway.

That’s because Parasol Corp has signed a few cross-promo deals, as you may have already spotted in the article image (Abiotic Factor). I’m not sure I’d be all that excited to clean grime and gunk off a "modern" game, but indie studios sometimes have to get creative to fund a project. And as long as Fortnite stays outside ... 😉

Once the cartridge has been unearthed, it comes with procedural dirt and other cosmetic flaws. That’s where you come in: using mouse, keyboard, or controller, you remove dust, ink, discoloration, stickers, scratches, adhesive residue, and so on. Each type of grime on a cartridge needs a different tool. On top of that, there are collection quests, rare cartridge variants, regional versions, special shells, and rewards for your collection room. Yep, there is one.

At least the marketing department at Umbrella—sorry, Parasol Corp—picked the "Cozy" buzzword for a reason. There are no timers and no fail states, so you can take your sweet time with each cartridge. In total, Cozy Game Restoration features 108 different retro titles, most of them fictional. Fair enough; doing it any other way probably would’ve made the whole thing a lot more expensive.

By the way, if you’re generally into games with retro themes, Retro Rewind might also be up your alley. It’s not even that far removed from Cozy Game Restoration, since that one is all about running a video store.
