A Reddit post from September 9 is making waves: a young gamer claims to have found a factory-fresh PlayStation 5 in a trash bin — and ended up trapped inside for a full 24 hours after a failed rescue attempt.
“Horrible,” commented an elderly resident. According to the 21-year-old, he was originally “just looking for pizza” when he stumbled upon something far more valuable to gamers: a still-sealed PS5.
In his Reddit post, he wrote:
“I was like totally freaked. The dumspter lid was already half open and I could see the PlayStation in there. So I yanked it open it smacked into the wall bounced back and jammed my fingres.”
The gamer tried to grab the console but slipped on a banana peel in front of the bin and fell in headfirst. His attempt to climb out was cut short when a passerby used the opportunity to dump a load of e-waste.
“Then this dude dumps like 5 PS5s 4 Xboxes and 3 old PC thingies right on my head. I'm a gamer I don’t even lift no way I’m gettin outta there.”
Despite feeling nauseous, the unlucky gamer immediately started live-posting his ordeal on Reddit — typos and all. It wasn’t until 24 hours later that a sanitation worker discovered him. The city employee told our editors:
“I’m a gamer myself so first I checked the bin for consoles. There was a ton of stuff in there man. Then I spotted Mr. X’s head (name known to editorial team) between two PS5s. I pulled the consoles out, then everything else, and just took off. No idea if Mr. X made it out after that.”
The gamer later confirmed on Reddit that he managed to escape his smelly prison “with a little help.”
Meanwhile, more rumors are circulating on the forum: several users claim to have received emails from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft urging them to dispose of brand-new consoles.
One Redditor even claims to have proof of a conspiracy between the three companies and Reddit Netherlands B.V. The alleged goal? Artificially boost Reddit’s traffic. No evidence was provided – but as professional video game journalists, we obviously believe every word.
We’ve reached out to the companies mentioned and will report back once we receive a response.
