The DLC Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn was originally expected to launch sometime between late 2025 and early 2026. Now Crate Entertainment has finally nailed down a release date—and it’s "already" arriving the month after next.
My last quick spin through Grim Dawn was easily ten years ago. Why so long? Because Crate Entertainment keeps putting out DLC for its hack ’n slash. 🙂 Wait, what? I know, that sounds a little backwards, but when I’m playing for myself, I’m not the kind of person who jumps on every tiny scrap of new content the second it drops.
I’d rather wait until the developers are properly finished—and then dive into the full pile of new stuff all at once. Grim Dawn is almost at that point, because with its third DLC, Fangs of Asterkarn, the crew at Crate is closing the book on Grim Dawn for good.
According to the press release, Fangs of Asterkarn will launch on July 23. For me, that means throwing Ashes of Malmouth, Forgotten Gods, and the new Nordic expansion into the cart that same day. All told, there’ll be 11.81 square kilometers of new Grim Dawn world waiting for me, with Fangs of Asterkarn alone adding a chunky 6.11 square kilometers.
That puts the new DLC almost in the same weight class as the base game, which, at 7.17 square kilometers, is "only" a little over one square kilometer larger. Nice, sure—but other details are what make Fangs of Asterkarn really interesting. Its late arrival (ten years after Grim Dawn) is just as curious as what’s actually inside this final helping. Because there’s a lot in here:
The overview below has the rest of the details.
A free update for all Grim Dawn players is launching alongside it. According to the developers, it includes UI reworks, a heavily improved stash, WASD controls, more detailed item tooltips, HDR lighting, balance changes, and bug fixes.
As the article image (cropped from the Fangs of Asterkarn key art) makes abundantly clear, this add-on goes all in on a Nordic theme. Even so, the new regions aren’t just snow and ice.
The DLC is set in the western wilderness of Asterkarn, with snowy peaks, frozen caves, forest valleys, and—yes, really—hot springs. The story revolves around the Kurn tribes, ancient alliances, and a bloody past that still hasn’t gone cold. But because this is sort of an action RPG, there’s also a corruption threatening Asterkarn, so naturally it needs to be punched clean out of the land.
Got all that? Then you can watch the whole thing in motion in the release date trailer below. As usual, Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn is launching on PC. Whether this spiritual successor to Titan Quest will ever make the jump to consoles is still up in the air, at least based on the information currently available.
